  • First and foremost, all funds will be distributed in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ from the Church of Kansas City. The initial funds will meet any remaining gaps for those directly impacted by the Union Station shooting. We are praying that there will be additional funds available after those needs are met. An application will soon be a part of the website (The Church Loves Kansas City) for Individuals and families directly impacted by violence in Kansas City to request support. The application will allow people to request funding for medical expenses (both short term and long term), funeral expenses and mental health support.

  • A cross-section of faith leaders across state lines and racial lines will form the task force that will oversee distribution of funds. This task force will be formed over the coming week and will include established faith leaders from several well respected churches and ministries. If you have a passion to serve on this committee, please let us know by responding to this email.

  • We believe in collaboration. We are currently working with nonprofit and faith-based organizations. We have reached out to other organizations serving Kansas City in the aftermath of this shooting. We will look at including other groups once this immediate need is met.

  • A generous donor has offered to cover all admin costs, so 100% of all funds given will go directly to victims.

When funds are given directly to individuals, we will give through Helping Hands.

  • When possible, medical bills will be paid directly to hospitals if they are non-profit entities. In the case of individuals, funds will be distributed through Helping Hands.

  • Yes. We have already established partnerships with mental health providers who are ready to serve. We will have additional details on the website ASAP.

  • Youth for Christ - Kansas City ministers to juvenile offenders. They have already been invited to meet with the boys in the detention center. Please pray that the Lord would redeem this story for His glory and the eternal good of the boys.

  • Yes, we will regularly update the total received beginning Tuesday, February 20. We will also post stories of the good being done with the funds so generously given.

  • It is wonderful that so many people are giving! It is awesome that so many are stepping up to contribute to the needs of those impacted by the Union Station shooting. We love that significant support is coming from sports, business, entertainment, the church, non-profit, mental health communities and more. As we rejoice in the outpouring of giving, we also know the current response is a lightning bolt of generosity. We believe the Church is called to be a sustained bonfire that continues to burn. We believe the Church needs to establish the financial means to respond to this crisis, the next crisis, and the next. The Church needs to be there long after the tragic Union Station shooting has faded from the headlines.

  • The Church has a unique role in the aftermath of any tragedy. First and foremost, no one can heal like Jesus. The Church is working toward the holistic well-being of every citizen in Kansas City. We want Kansas City to know that the Church supports its citizens in the time of need. This is a beautiful opportunity for the Church to step in a unique way to serve the city we love.

Sadly, there will be hundreds of acts of violence in 2024 that won't garner attention - other than a brief mention on the 10 o’clock news. The greatest impact of this fund will be to serve in the aftermath of violence in low profile situations.

  • There are no plans to make this anything more than a fund at the National Christian Foundation. We have no plans - and no desire - to move this to anything more than a movement led by local leaders who desire to lift high name of Jesus - and shine a light on the love of the Church for our city. There are no plans for staff. No plans to apply for 501(c)3 status and no plans to establish a board.

  • Gary Kendall, Executive Director of Love KC and Ray Jarrett, Executive Director of Unite KC will speak for the generosity movement. It is important that the spokesperson not be a pastor of a local church as we are committed to not lifting any church or individual pastor. No ministry is behind this movement. This is the Church of Jesus Christ collectively responding in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
